About the Contributed Artworks
"defences" is a print of a hand made, hand bound, linocut zine featuring an original poem by poet, zine maker, and academic Avani Tandon Vieira. Created in India in the early months of a national lockdown, the zine combines print making and poetry to speak of vulnerability, illness, and the many things that we have gained and lost this year.

About the Artist
Avani is a PhD candidate at the University of Cambridge, where she studies independent publishing and minority expression in late twentieth century Bombay. Alongside her academic work, she runs a number of curatorial projects, including a cross border art space for Indian and Pakistani artists called the Pind Collective (https://www.thepindcollective.org) and an online archive of ephemera from Mumbai's resistance movements called the Museum of Ephemera (https://www.themuseumofephemera.com). The Seed Sewa fundraiser, in addressing the role that the arts can play in supporting and advancing the cause of contemporary resistance movements, aligns closely with her work and beliefs.
