About the Artist
My name is Noah Gokul, and my artist and music act is called bindiram. I am from Oakland, California / Ohlone lands. I am a music producer & singer, an educator for healing and arts work, and a multi-disciplinary artist. My music is a reflection of my multiple identities and how I wish to connect to the world through storytelling. I am of Indo-Guyanese and Irish/English descent, and incorporate sounds of the Caribbean, South Asia, and growing up in hyphy era Bay Area into my music. I believe in the healing capacity of music and how it weaves together cultures and story. I believe in our intergenerational healing and creating radically different ways of approaching healing and living that honor indigeneity, collective wisdom, and our humanity. I create to connect, energize, and heal. I believe in reclaiming power to the workers and that relationship to land is sacred. I come from poor workers displaced from India and brought to Guyana, who created a relationship to the land through cutting sugar cane. The struggle of these farmers is intertwined with that of oppressed peoples against capitalism, fascism, racism, patriarchy+ around the world.
